Technology unity, company behind the Unity engine, buy digital weta. If you are a movie fan, you don’t need an introduction to Weta. This is the house of VFX Peter Jackson which was founded in 1993. It has worked on films such as ring fellowship, avatars and black widows. In an agreement of $ 1.625 billion, the unity obtained the company’s technology division, including the artist’s tools and technical talents. The VFX team and Weta’s animation will form a separate entity known as Wetafx, which Peter Jackson will continue to hold majority shares. This agreement is expected to be closed at the end of the year, awaiting regulatory approval.

Weta Technology Suite includes a tool for facial animation, creating virtual cityscapes and modeling object deformation, among many other applications. The unity plan is not only integrating these programs into the Unity engine but in the end it also offers it as part of the Cloud-Based Subscription Offer. At some point, many digital weta assets have created for years will make their way to the machine too, allow anyone with access to unity to use it.

The company does not say exactly when it will happen, but the vision here is to put unity at the forefront of metaphevers because whatever is needed will require many 3D models. “Integrated tools and amazing scientists and technology from Digital Weta will accelerate our mission to provide easy-to-use content makers and high-performance tools to bring their vision to life,” Unity said in a blog post. “Whatever Metaverse or will, we believe it will be built by the creator of content, just like you.”
